Background

It is well appreciated by the dental profession that magnification by head worn loupes improves diagnosis and treatment. If loupes of the correct working distance are worn posture can be corrected and in conjunction with appropriate seating potential cervical, thoracic and lumbar problems can be negated.

History

In general students purchase loupes on commencement of clinical work. Often they are unable to fund quality loupes and resort to buying low cost poor quality loupes. The consequences of low optical quality loupes of an inappropriate working distance are

• A reluctance to use
• Poor posture with the potential of long term problems
• Headaches and eyestrain
• Eventual purchase of quality loupes after completion of training thus “buying twice”

Proposal

Some students may whish to pay the full cost of the loupes by cheque or credit card at the time of purchase. It is also understood that some students may wish to lease the loupes to defray the costs. Until now it has been impossible for students to lease equipment as they are generally not property owners. Nuview in conjunction with Braemar Finance have created a lease scheme that will allow the student full ownership of the product at the end of the 2 year lease.
