Don’t worry, I had never considered clenching my jaw to cause such distress to my body either however, it turns out that these hormones released can cause stress on the body leading to fatigue if they are over produced. When you are at the top level of any sport, the smallest advantage can create massive results but you may be as surprised as I was to learn just how big of an advantage you can gain just by wearing a uniquely designed gum shield can be.
When you dig deeper into the science, you can see how all of the effects of clenching your jaw can add up to something that is actually going to cause significant problems. Most sports people know that less Oxygen causes you tire faster and can cause lactic acid to build up faster, that’s one of the major reasons we train so hard to recruit more alveoli in our lungs and last longer during games.
See, by preventing the teeth from clenching fully by tilting the jaw forwards and down slightly relieves a monumental amount of pressure on the TMJ previously mentioned. This in turn reduces the levels of Cortisol produced, relieves the amount of energy you exert through these hormones and also opens up the airways to allow more intake of Oxygen.

Over a 30 minute training session it allows for a massive 25% less lactic acid to build up and is a result of almost 15 years of science and research.
