Description
Nuview, distributor of high-quality magnification and illumination equipment, was delighted to collaborate with education providers, Cutting Edge Dental Education (CEDE) in delivering a unique, hands-on course aimed at introducing GDPs and dental nurses to the art of clinical microscopy.
Held in May at the Academy of Clinical Excellence, Wakefield, Yorkshire, the two day workshop, hosted by Dr Bill Seddon and Jason Smithson, provided a comprehensive lecture on the techniques behind effective clinical microscopy within a general dental and cosmetic dentistry setting, followed by a hands-on session and in-situ training, leaving delegates more confident about how to make the most of microscopic equipment.
Topics covered were:
• The basics of microscope usage: How to get the best out of your equipment • Positioning and maneuverability
• Working on difficult teeth and how to overcome common problems • Imaging and documentation
Nuview, sole UK distributors of Carl Zeiss microscopes, was delighted to be able to provide each attendee with full access to a high specification Zeiss tabletop microscope for the duration of the workshop, allowing each learner to gain hands-on experience with their market-leading technology. The first of its kind in the UK, the course enabled dental professionals and their nurses the opportunity not only to gain valuable knowledge on this useful skill in a practical and hands-on manner, but also to earn six hours of accredited CPD training.
For accompanying nurses, a separate lecture on the role of the dental nurse in support of dental microscopy was also included in the timetable. A full operatory set up was used to demonstrate effective assisting and delegates were able to work with their own nurses in the operatory and on phantom heads.
Delegates came from as far afield as Exeter, Bristol and Glasgow to attend the workshop and many provided CEDE with very favourable feedback, one delegate choosing to attend the course twice!
CEDE, run by directors Bill Seddon, Jason Smithson and David Peltz, was established to provide relevant, hands-on CPD for general and cosmetic dentists throughout Europe using the latest technology available within an educational setting. CEDE also host an online forum on their website (www.cedeonline.com) which provides a free platform for dental practitioners wishing to confer and share ideas and initiatives about dental education and CPD in an open and constructive way.
Of the course, Dr Seddon said: “ We weren’t aware of any other hands-on course that combined microscope use and aesthetic dentistry and felt there was an educational gap that needed filling. We were very happy to be able to team up with Nuview – delegates really felt that they benefited from having their own microscope to practice on during the duration of the course.”
Nuview, UK distributor for Carl Zeiss microscopes and loupes, appreciates that the learning process is one that never ends. For dental professionals, there is the constant requirement to remain fully informed of the latest techniques and procedures, as well as the challenge of developing new skills.
To do so successfully, it’s important to have the best equipment for the job, such as dental microscopes from Carl Zeiss.
